Using Pen Tool in Adobe Photoshop

Posted by niaaz on October 6, 2008

Hi.. It seems there’s no one make tutorial about pen tool.. I’m sure photoshop users know pen tool.. it is THE MOST DIFFICULT TOOL.. maybe you all gonna think like that.. I was like you all before.
but my opinion changed now because i know pen tool has more benefit than lasso tool, polygon lasso tool & magnetic lasso tool..

here we go.. :

1. Open the pic that you want to edit.

2. Choose pen tool (click right in the mouse to see other option) & click path in menu.

3. Now we are ready to use pen tool. we click the pic as a path & then we click another one at the pic as a path (on the line). we click mouse in the left. one thing to remember. DON’T DRAG THE PEN TOOL!!!. we always drag the tool when we using lasso tool & etc. pen tool is different. It’s like we walking step by step. You can click delete path in the right on mouse if you want to delete all path. if u made mistake then click history in history box & go back to the previous path that U did & start over again. HISTORY IS IMPORTANT U KNOW. we can make mistake so often when we editing pic.

4. just follow the path until we meet the path when we start using pen tool. we will see in the history box : close path.

5. click right on the mouse & choose “make selection”. there’s box will show up. we choose feather radius 2 pixel, tick anti-aliased & operation : new selection.

6. after that, we copy paste the pic in new layer. voila.. you able to use pen tool now..
this is only standard ways to use pen tool, of course you can modify the setting later. just unleash your creativity..

these pic will guide you from the steps that i already said before..Program I used is ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS..

we can make a lot like vector mask or anything else. trust me. IT IS WORTH TO LEARN IT.
